Running for Cancer Research 20.05.2008
The BUPA 10K Manchester Run, held on the 18th May was a special event for Miss Louise Harrop, Accounts Assistant at United Springs.

Louise's chosen charity was Cancer Research and the money raised will be passed to Christie Hospital in Manchester. "A couple of years ago my brother, Jonathan, was diagnosed with cancer", said Louise, "it was a difficult time for the whole family especially as Jonathan was due to get married that year. The wedding was postponed and Jonathan underwent treatment at Christie Hospital. Thankfully, he made a full recovery and made it down the aisle a year later.", she continued.  Louise too had a cancer problem that needed attention and once more, Christie Hospital came to the rescue. "As you can see, Cancer Research is close to our hearts and given the outstanding treatment and support we both had from Christie Hospital, the least we can do is give something back by taking part in the BUPA Manchester Run", Louise concluded.

Louise completed the run in a very commendable 1 hour and 10 minutes and her brother completed the run in 55 minutes.

Louise lives with her partner Steven and they plan to marry in 2009.  She is a season ticket holder at Blackburn Rovers Football Club and is convinced that they'll win the Premiership sometime in the near future.

Brian Pickford, General Manager of United Springs made a donation of behalf of the company of £100 towards Louise's total. "We're all very proud of her", commented Brian, "and I understand that her enthusiasm has persuaded a number of company members to run the event next year".

United Springs is pleased to announce that Michelle Bidski has been nominated for Apprentice of the Year by Rochdale Training College.  Michelle started at United Springs in September 2007 and works as a Production Control Apprentice.

"I'm delighted that Michelle has received this nomination", said Les Caffrey, Operations Manager, "She has settled in well and is a quick learner. I'm pleased with her progress and she makes a valued contribution to our company", he continued.

Of her job at United Springs, Michelle comments, "Everyone is very friendly and as soon as I arrived at the company I was made to feel very welcome. My colleagues are always willing to help me and show me how to do something when I'm not sure. I like the job because it challenges me, teaches me new skills and I now feel as though I have a career path.  Most of my friends think we make springs for beds and ball point pens, but we don't. Our clients are far more exciting and we supply all sorts of industries ranging from Formula 1 to Nuclear Power Plants."

Michelle is 16 years old and currently lives at home with her parents and likes to spend her spare time socialising with friends.

"Hopefully, I'll continue my education alongside my working life and my ambition is to complete a Business Studies Degree and work in a managerial role", she concluded.
